Gameplay and the Metaverse: A History and Evolution

Validated Individual Expert

Games have been a part of our lives for as long as we can remember. In video games, it’s easy to feel as if the rules that govern our lives don’t apply. We’re free from gravity, free from the pressures of daily life, free from ourselves. It’s an escape like no other.

But what if we told you that your love of games extends beyond a simple hobby? What if we told you that your passion lies in an ability to access an alternate reality or even move between realities? Although virtual reality technology might sound crazy, it has enabled gamers like you to experience life in a whole new way.

Think of the future and you’ll see a landscape filled with virtual worlds, avatars, and memes. Tell that to an 80s kid who grew up with Nintendo and Super Mario. In terms of quality and theme, the games they grew up with shaped their perception of video games. Those games were an escape from reality and a chance to live another life or story through the eyes of that avatar.

Over time, the graphics have gotten better, devices have gotten smaller, and game design as a field has become more mature. Today we are finally seeing virtual worlds come into their own on both the consumer side with Oculus Rift and other VR headsets, as well as the enterprise side tools like Google Earth.

Metaverse represents an amalgamation of older ideas, an evolution from experiences, and progress into the future. In the Metaverse, a digital environment built into a computer system, people can play games with each other. Metaverse allows users to access diverse real-time gaming worlds through technology.

What Is the Metaverse of Gaming Like?

Metaverse refers to the virtual world of VR content that allows users to interact with each other and the digital world around them through advanced hardware and software for human-computer interaction (HCI).

VR gaming has never been so exciting.

In its current state, VR gameplay is available as standalone applications that can be installed on your computer, VR gear, or mobile phone to experience an immersive rendition of video games.

It is now possible to view the in-game universe in three dimensions and touch it with a realistic sense of perception.

The VR headset would enable them to navigate between gaming applications, interact with the same players in multiple locations, and even port their wins without removing them.

Gameplay in the metaverse: Where is it headed?

There has been an interesting shift in the online gaming market over the last five years. With more powerful hardware becoming more affordable, 3D gaming has moved from browsers to standalone clients, and now it is heading toward the metaverse — a system of interconnected virtual worlds that is accessible from within any other connected world.

As technology advances, we will see advancements in the gaming experience as well. Metaverse might be what we’re looking for. The metaverse is virtual reality. It’s a whole other world that you can dive headfirst into. You don’t even have to leave your own home to enter it.

Unlike traditional gaming, where you’re stuck with what the game developers give you, in the Metaverse, you get to create the world around you, from the ground up — with whatever you want: cars, flowers, trees — the sky’s the limit!
