The couple accused of laundering billions of dollars worth of Bitcoin linked to the 2016 Bitfinex hack have agreed to a plea deal with US authorities. Court records show that Ilya Lichtenstein and Heather Morgan will appear in court on August 3 for an arraignment and hearing as part of the agreement.
The pair were charged with money laundering conspiracy and conspiracy to defraud the US and were expected to forfeit digital assets related to the case. Following the hack of Bitfinex, Lichtenstein and Morgan allegedly laundered over 94,643 BTC of the stolen funds through multiple accounts and platforms.
